Sean A. Griffith
Corporate Attorney, ANSA McAL Group of Companies Limited

1. Where you are currently assigned and how long have you been with the ANSA McAL Group?
I am a Corporate Attorney with the ANSA McAL Group and I have been with the organization for 7 fast-paced and fulfilling years…and counting.

2. What are some of your key responsibilities and accountabilities?
I currently provide legal services to the various sectors throughout the Group, however, my primary areas of focus are the Media Sector, Beverage Sector and Automotive Sector. The services provided range from minor contracts and advice to complex high value acquisitions.  The diversity of issues and the opportunities to work with people throughout the Group is a big part of what makes it so exciting.

3. What single project or task would you consider your most significant career accomplishment to date?
While I have been involved in a number of noteworthy projects and assignments during my time with the Group, the most significant career accomplishment would have to be my role in the acquisition of the Group’s brewery operations in Orlando Florida i.e. Florida Beer Company.  Apart from the interesting subject matter involved (i.e. beer), the transaction was complex in some regards and proved to be a very worthwhile learning experience for me.

4. How do you go about motivating or challenging yourself?
A number of things serve as my motivation.  Some of my key motivators are:

My family – In particular, the desire to make them proud and to create a better life for the future generations of my family.

The importance of our work – At the risk of sounding corny, I believe that what we do as a Group is exceedingly important.  We are involved in such a wide variety of businesses, we employ several thousand people and we touch the lives of so many people within the borders of Trinidad and Tobago, throughout the region and the world as a whole.  Knowledge of that fact makes me proud and causes me to work harder and do better.

Self-belief – As arrogant as it may sound, I believe that I have the ability to be great!  As such, at the beginning of each day (usually during my extended commute into the office) I make a commitment to myself to try to be great and to do something meaningful that day.  Even though I sometimes fall short of glory, this is definitely a constant work in progress and I believe that it will be achieved someday (fingers crossed).

5. Why would someone want to work for ANSA McAL?
I would recommend the Group as the best place to work because as I have witnessed first-hand, it is a place where anything is possible.  The opportunities are numerous and if you have the desire and the acumen there are a wealth of opportunities available even outside your strict field of employment.

6. Are you optimistic about the Group’s future?
I am beyond optimistic about the Group’s future.  My extreme optimism stems from the fact that our executive leadership is passionate about, and committed to, the success of our Group companies and the people at all levels that make that success possible.  That kind of passion is contagious and as such, I can’t help but to share in that optimism.  More importantly, the Group is constantly evolving and continuously putting things in place to ensure its growth and continued success well into the future, therefore, a strong sense of optimism is the only emotion that I feel.
